Matchmaker, matchmaker: ?Big Nog?s? next bout, moving around title bouts, and Hector Lombard?s new home

Here's the latest in fights made and fighters signed by the UFC's yentes.

-- Somehow, not every heavyweight bout isn't on UFC 146. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will fight Cheick Kongo at UFC 149 in Calgary. This is Big Nog's first fight back since Frank Mir snapped his arm.

-- The moving around of title fights isn't over with Chael Sonnen's bout with Anderson Silva. Jose Aldo's title fight may move to UFC 147 in Brazil, which doesn't have a venue, and Dan Henderson may face Jon Jones for the UFC light heavyweight belt at UFC 149 in Calgary. With summer looming, few pay-per-view cards outside of UFC 148 in Las Vegas are set.

-- Though there isn't a fight yet scheduled for him, former Bellator champion Hector Lombard will make the move to the UFC. MMA Fighting found out from Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney, and then Lombard confirmed the news on Twitter. His last loss was in 2006, and Rebney said he is confident Lombard will be the UFC middleweight champ.

-- Marcus LeVesseur will make his UFC debut against Cody McKenzie at UFC on Fuel 3 on May 15 in Virginia, taking the place of Aaron Riley. Wrestling fans will recognize LeVesseur as four-time D-III national champion. He's been fighting since 2003 and has a record of 21-5. TUF alum McKenzie is on a three-fight losing streak.

UPDATE: One more bout for your enjoyment. Mark Munoz will take on Chris Weidman at UFC on Fuel 4 on July 11. The just-announced event does not yet have a location, but is important in deciding who will fight for the middleweight belt next.

President Obama test drives a Sphero on Boulder visit

Image

President Obama was in the Centennial State last night, hyping up an enthusiastic crowd at the University of Colorado at Boulder's Coors Events Center. Of course, he couldn't help but take some time to check out some some of the local innovation. The President took a few moments out of his busy schedule to play around with the smartphone-controlled Sphero RC ball, declaring "how cool is that," before demanding that the crowd, "give me some space to drive my ball." He also tossed out some superlatives like "terrific," after nearly driving it into a woman's flip-flop. Now that's a solid endorsement, if ever we've heard one. In the end, though, it didn't last long -- the guy's got a country to run, after all.

Rashad Evans? busted eye and Mac Danzig?s busted ankle are your pictures of the day

Those short elbows that Jon Jones used on Rashad Evans, and the heel hook Efrain Escudero used on Mac Danzig did some damage. Evans tweeted a picture of his eye the day after the fight. Danzig, who managed to win his bout even though his ankle was swollen and ugly, showed how it was still bruised and swollen. He plans to get an MRI later this week to see what damage was caused at UFC 146. It's just another reminder that fighters' jobs are not like ours, unless your job involves laughing off injuries on a daily basis.

Jon Lovitz on Obama: What a F*%king A$$hole!

Jon Lovitz is apparently not a fan of President Obama.

The former Saturday Night Live star didn't exactly go Ted Nugent on Barack, but he did make some strong feelings known on his recent podcast, "The ABC's Of SNL."

In a clip first highlighted by Breitbart TV, Lovitz jokes that Obama is "a f--king a$$hole" for "saying the rich don't pay their taxes." Tell us how you really feel, Jon!

The comedian went on to explain that Obama "is the perfect example" of what can go wrong with government: "He's amazing. He had nothing. He had no father."

"He was, you know, of mixed race which is a burden in the United, don't kid yourself, you know, growing up like that, and no money, and the guy ends up being at Harvard."

"He's the President of the United States. And now he's like, fuck me!"

"If I make a dollar and out of every dollar I'm taxed at 50, half, at 50 cents, I have to give, isn't that like enough?" asked Lovitz. He continued, "It's half. HALF?!"

It's unclear whether Lovitz's comments were sincere or in jest ... or a little of both. The rant occurred this January, though the podcast itself was just released.

Victoria Jackson is perhaps the President's most outspoken critic among SNL alumni, often calling Obama a communist. Yeah. Nothing in jest about that.

A physician?s guide for anti-vaccine parents

ScienceDaily (Apr. 23, 2012) ? In the limited time of an office visit, how can a primary care physician make the case to parents that their child should be vaccinated? During National Infant Immunization Week, a Mayo Clinic vaccine expert and a pediatrician offer suggestions for refuting three of the most common myths about child vaccine safety.

Their article, The Clinician's Guide to the Anti-Vaccinationists' Galaxy, is published online this month in the journal Human Immunology.

"Thousands of children are at increased risk because of under-vaccination, and outbreaks of highly transmissible diseases have occurred" says lead author Gregory Poland, M.D., Mayo Clinic vaccinologist. "Primary care physicians have less time than most to explain the scientific case for vaccination. This article gives them the background and tools to debunk some of the major myths."

Dr. Poland and Mayo pediatrician Robert Jacobson, M.D., review the three immunity-related misconceptions that they say "fuel patient and parental concerns, questions and fears about vaccines." Those myths are:

? Babies' systems aren't ready for the number of vaccines given today.

? Vaccines can cause autoimmune diseases.

? Natural immunity is safer and better.

The Mayo experts explain that the number of active molecules in infant vaccines is far lower than ever before, so while vaccines are not only safe, each child is receiving a fraction of actual antigen compared to children in the past. Among other evidence, they point to a recent review of 1,200 articles by the Institute of Medicine that failed to find any autoimmune side effect from vaccines. They make the point that there is either no impact or that any relation to autoimmune conditions is not causative. Finally, they make the case that while natural immunity does protect as well, the risk of illness and death is far higher than with a vaccine.

The article also includes background on the anti-vaccine movement and outlines the harm it has done by spreading inaccurate information.

"We want to offer a user-friendly guide for doctors, but also issue a call to action," Dr. Poland says. "We can now show that children have died because of under-vaccination and that diseases have spread needlessly because of this trend."

Dr. Poland says lack of vaccination has put many children at risk for diseases that are avoidable, including whooping cough and measles. He emphasized that the risk of death for measles is three in 1,000 without vaccination, while the risk of death from the measles vaccination is zero.

Dr. Poland is the chairman of a safety evaluation committee for investigational vaccine trials being conducted by Merck Research Laboratories. Dr. Poland offers consultative advice on new vaccine development to Merck & Co., Inc., Avianax, Theraclone Sciences (formally Spaltudaq Corporation), MedImmune LLC, Liquidia Technologies, Inc., Emergent BioSolutions, Novavax, Dynavax, EMD Serono, Inc., Novartis Vaccines and Therapeutics and PAXVAX, Inc. Dr. Jacobson is a member of a safety review committee for a post-licensure study funded by Merck & Co. concerning the safety of a human papillomavirus vaccine. He is a member of a data monitoring committee for an investigational vaccine trial funded by Merck & Co. He is principal investigator for two studies, including one funded by Novartis International for its licensed meningococcal conjugate vaccine and one funded by Pfizer, Inc. for its licensed pneumococcal conjugate vaccine.

AT&T reports Q1 earnings: $31.8 billion in revenue, 5.5 million smartphones sold

AT&T reports Q1 earnings: $31.8 billion in revenue, sells 5.5 million smartphones

Sure, there was no new iPhone to boost its smartphone sales this quarter, but the carrier still managed to push 5.5 million of the devices out the door, while activating 4.3 million Apple-branded handsets. The company beat analyst predictions by raking in $31.8 billion in revenue and pocketing $3.6 billion of that as income, up from $3.4 billion over the same time period last year. Things are looking good for the company as both U-Verse and its wireless business grew revenues dramatically -- by 38.2 percent and 19.9 percent, respectively. Growth on the cellular side is in large part thanks to the 726,000 net subscriber adds. Of particular interest is the growth in so-called "branded-computing" subscriptions, which includes tethering plans and tablets. There, AT&T has seen a growth of 70 percent over last year, reaching 5.8 million customers (including 460,000 added last quarter). For more financial fun check out the PR after the break.
