Montana State University Extension hosts 2012 Golden Triangle Cropping Seminars

BOZEMAN - Montana State University Extension will host the annual series of Cropping Seminars in the Golden Triangle January 16-19, in Chester, Choteau, Conrad, Cut Bank, Denton, Fort Benton, Great Falls and Shelby.

Speakers at each seminar location will include: Dave Wichman, MSU Western Triangle and Central Agriculture Research Centers, who will present information on crop variety selection and the local variety trial results; Dr. Olga Walsh from the MSU Western Triangle Agriculture Research Center, discussing her soil fertility research; and Jeff Rumney from the Montana State Grain Quality Lab who will discuss grain quality from both an end-user and grower standpoint, as well as the falling number test.

There will be an update on foliar and root diseases of small grain crops, presented by Dr. Mary Burrows, MSU Extension Plant Pathologist, and Dr. Alan Dyer, MSU Plant Pathology researcher.

An update on crop insects -- presented by Cecil Tharp, MSU Extension Pesticide Education Specialist and Dr. Kevin Wanner, MSU Extension Entomologist -- will focus on wireworm and will include information on grasshoppers, sawflies, cutworms and other insect pests.

Five private and four commercial pesticide applicator credits will be available for attendees. No pre-registration is required, there is no charge, and all producers are encouraged to attend. All seminars begin at 9 a.m., with registration at 8:30 a.m.
